Multiply Premium - to plunge or not to plunge

Random Thoughts — kenibatz @ November 5, 2008

I love Multiply. Of all the social networks I’m engaged in, I find Multiply as the most useful and practical.

As a photographer, I can post my pictures there to promote my work and either get feedback for improvement or be inspired by positive comments. I’ve also met most of my new friends, business contacts and potential love interests ( haha! :D ) through Multiply.

If there’s one thing I (slightly) don’t like about Multiply, it’s the ads.

Don’t get me wrong. I completely understand that Multiply needs to make an income to support its generous lending of resources and bandwidth to its subscribed users. At the end of the day, it’s still a business that needs to make a decent profit.

And at the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, I do appreciate the genius of online ads. Heck, I plan to post online ads on my own site eventually.

But online ads on Multiply are a bit distracting, especially for a creative control freak such as myself who would rather have site visitors focus on the photos. It’s a distraction, albeit a necessary one.

Fortunately, Multiply does offer a paid subscription service called the Premium account.

Just $19.95 a year buys you

  • Higher video upload limits (200 MB or 20 minutes)
  • Unlimited storage of your full-resolution photos and videos
  • Access to full-resolution content across Multiply
  • One-click photo album downloads
  • Ad-free browsing and sharing

I’ll continue my musings on this subject tomorrow because purchasing an online subscribtion (especially since I already have one) deserves some serious thought.
